Shoulder

Shoulder pain ranks among the most prevalent concerns encountered in an Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine practice. Within the shoulder joint, various components, including bones, ligaments, tendons, labrum, and capsules, are susceptible to injury. These injuries may arise from acute traumas such as sports injuries or motor vehicle accidents (MVAs). Additionally, they can stem from work-related incidents, slips and falls, or overuse. Symptoms associated with these injuries often encompass pain, swelling, stiffness, weakness, difficulty raising the arm, and pain while sleeping.

Treatment
The treatment approach is tailored to individual factors including the patient's age and the nature and extent of the injury. Generally, conservative methods are initially pursued. These may involve physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, and cortisone injections. However, surgical intervention may be necessary in select cases.
Among the most common procedures is shoulder arthroscopy, a minimally invasive outpatient surgery performed through small incisions around the shoulder. Minimally invasive techniques typically lead to quicker recovery times and increased patient satisfaction.
